An antique carved amethyst ‘Pense à moi’ pendant,

English, circa 1880

<

the petals carved from richly coloured amethysts ingeniously capturing the delicate undulations and translucence of the pansy flower, centred with an old mine cut diamond with gold stamen set with rose cut diamonds, the intersections between the petals decorated with diamond set yellow gold trefoils.

Accompanied by a detachable brooch fitting and presented in its original tooled red leather box.

Length: 4cm

English, circa 1880

The pansy flower, translating as ‘pensée’ in French, is a rebus for the word ‘pense’ (to think).  The jewel serves as a reminder to the recipient to think of the person from whom the brooch was given, ‘pense à moi’.
