Falize: A Dynasty of Jewellers

10th -19th June 1999

Falize Brooch Recuerdo Circle
A Gold, Enamel and Gem-set Brooch by Lucien Falize. Paris, c.1880.

The three generations of Falize once overlooked by historians are now regarded as one of the most talented of jewellers and goldsmiths. This exhibition was the result of Katherine Purcell’s painstaking ten-year research, which began by reading the inscriptions on the family’s tomb in Moret-sur-Loing and tracing the jeweller’s descendents. The exhibition brought together from museums and private collections an extraordinary range of the firm’s work spanning the 1840’s to 1930’s, revealing the breadth of their inspiration and their meticulous craftsmanship.
