A Diamond mounted Brooch

of circular shape, comprising of openwork stylised wave motifs set with diamonds crossing the brooch vertically, centred with a large brilliant cut diamond, finished with a diamond set scalloped border.

Provenance

Designed by Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma (1900-1979), to present as a gift to his daughter Patricia, later 2nd Countess Mountbatten. Thence by descent.

Lord Mountbatten was the son of Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse by the Rhine, later Marquess and Marchioness of Milford Haven. He was the grandson of Princess Alice of Hesse by the Rhine and great grandson of Queen Victoria.

He served as Governor General of India between 1947-48. He was appointed First Sea Lord between 1955-59 and was made an Admiral of the Fleet in 1956. He was Chief of the Deference Staff between 1959-65.
