an unusually striking pendant by Frédéric Boucheron featuring a large oval citrine in an openwork gold and diamond set mount, clasped in the jaws of a jackal’s head of chased gold with faceted green tourmaline eyes, crowned with the heads of two chased gold serpents.

This motif, designed by Lucien Hirtz, appears in several smaller brooches he composed for Frederic Boucheron.

Lucien Hirtz (1864-1928),a sculptor and enamelist who received his early training from Falize, was employed by Boucheron from 1893.
