yellow gold, mounted with coloured natural zircons and brilliant cut diamonds, enamelled opaque black and white in the renaissance taste.

Contained in its original silk and velvet lined tooled leather case by Guichard.

The brooch was bequeathed by Miss Hilda Mary Virtue-Tebbs (1874-1953) to Miss Rachel Makepeace Thackeray (1906 – 1999); a relative of the novelist William Makepeace Thackeray.

Hilda was drawn by the pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Robery Hughes in 1897.
