An Antique Gold Brooch

in the form of a shot gun in yellow gold, the barrels and trigger in platinum, with engraved decoration.

Stamped with a French eagle’s head for 18ct gold with maker’s poinçon.

Presented in its original fitted box, which is in the form of a leather gun case with a moiré silk pouch edged with metallic mesh, the interior lined with green silk velvet, the lid with green silk stamped in gold ‘AU CARNAVAL DE VENISE, PARIS.’

The firm Au Carnaval de Venise was located at 3 Boulevard De La Madeleine in Paris and were a luxurious milliners and haberdashery. They included among their illustrious clientele the French explorer, the Marquis de Compiègne (1846-1877).
