An antique gem-set ladybird brooch,

English, circa 1900

modelled in flight, its diamond set wings outstretched, the elytra (wing casing) partially opened to reveal the abdomen beneath, which is denoted by a sardonyx cabochon, the elytra mounted with rose cut diamonds interspersed with ruby spots, the pronotum mounted with a cushion cut blue sapphire surrounded with diamonds, the eyes denoted by two cabochon rubies, its gold legs outstretched.

Length: 4.7cm

Ladybirds are symbolic of good luck, prosperity and good fortune.
