A Rare Blue Topaz and Diamond Brooch by Carl Fabergé

St Petersburg, c.1890

<

the natural sky-blue stone brilliant-cut weighing 134 carats, its deep gallery pierced in the form of a Greek key pattern entirely diamond-set.

Signed with the initials of the chief jewellery workmaster August Holmström.
St. Petersburg, before 1899.

This sky-blue colour only occurs in the presence of irradiation combined with heat. For this to occur naturally is an extraordinarily rare occurence and Faberge’s skilled lapidary
has turned this gem into a hypnotic sea of blue facets that is uniquely beguiling.
