Presented in its original tooled red leather presentation box, the lid satin stamped ‘Lacloche Fres, 15 Rue de la Paix, Paris, 2 New Bond Street, London.’
The design is most likely derived from an identical jewel created by Fabergé’s chief jeweller Albert Holmström in 1912. The drawing for this jewel survives in Holmström’s ledgers.
There are several examples of jewels by Lacloche having been inspired by Fabergé designs. When Fabergé was forced to close its Bond Street shop in 1917, some 200 pieces of stock were acquired by Lacloche. It demonstrates the deep admiration the French firm had for the work of the Imperial Russian Court jeweller.
