A Hardstone Carving of a Black Pug by Carl Fabergé

carved from black obsidian (a volcanic glass) with delicately foiled rose cut diamonds eyes, the stone carefully chosen for its flashes of silk which mirror the texture of a short haired dog.

Length: 4cm
Height: 4cm (at the head)

An almost identical model in orange coloured aventurine quartz belongs to Her Majesty The Queen and is illustrated in Fabergé’s Animals: A Royal Farm in Miniature on page 54.
