A diamond padlock, early 19th century.

<

An antique gold padlock, mounted with old brilliant cut diamonds, hung on a finely made gold curb-link bracelet, the padlock opens to accommodate the bracelet and has a hinged glazed compartment to the rear.

English, circa 1810.

2.1cm across

The padlock is a symbol of hearts locked together. This antique expression of that sentiment is echoed in the modern phenomenon of ‘love locks’ attached to bridges around the world.
